THE ELITE ATHLETE PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT & WELLBEING PROGRAMME
2026/27 edition. Led by former Premier League footballer Elliott Ward.
Researched. Evolved. Lived.
The only certified programme supporting athletes and coaches in and out of sport globally. Twelve years of experience. A new generation of delivery.
More than twelve years ago our CEO Scott Ward — MBA, CCMI, fCMgr, and a former professional footballer — researched and launched what was the first global athlete personal development programme of its kind. It was built around one principle: developing an elite athlete has to mean developing the person, not just the performer.
why This PROGRAMME EXISTS
More than a decade later, that principle has not changed. The world around it has.
The pressures are different. Social media is bigger. Personal brands matter. Athletes face increasingly complex decisions under increasingly public scrutiny, while transitions — going out on loan, breaking into a first team, injury, contract negotiations, and eventually life beyond sport — can shape a person long after the football stops.
So the programme has evolved. New modules, new interventions, new conversations — the foundations laid twelve years ago, rebuilt around the realities facing today’s athletes. And leading it into its next chapter is Elliott Ward, a former Premier League footballer bringing the lived experience of a professional career alongside the wider expertise of the Humanise Solutions team.
WHAT IT COVERS
Interventions designed around the athlete as a whole person:
- Going on loan
- Communication
- Personal brand and social media
- Consent
- Identity
- Mental wellbeing
- Leadership
- Financial literacy
- Decision-making
- Relationships
- Performing under pressure
- Life after sport
…and more, layered by age and stage.
This is not about telling athletes how to live their lives. It is about giving them the knowledge, the tools, the confidence and a trusted environment to make informed decisions — during their careers and long after their playing days are over.
WHAT IT sets out to achieve
Self-awareness
Structured self-reflection so athletes understand their strengths, their motivations and their values — and can name the areas they want to develop.
Accountability
Ownership of actions and decisions, realistic goal-setting, and peer and mentor structures that keep athletes on track when the season gets hard.
Wellbeing
Mental, emotional and physical wellbeing treated as one thing. Stress management, resilience and sleep, with access to specialist support where it is needed.
Personal development
Communication, leadership and emotional intelligence — plus permission and structure to build an identity beyond athletic achievement.
Life beyond sport
Transferable skills, career planning, job readiness and connections to employers, so the transition out of sport is prepared for rather than survived.
how a season works
An illustrative shape. Scope, group splits and timings are tailored to each organisation.
1 · Intro presentation — July
Kick-off for all groups: the why, and the journey ahead.
2 · Facilitated delivery — July to end August
Younger groups build foundation behaviours: consent, personal accountability and communication. Older groups (U19s, U21s) take four workshops of one to two hours — Being You, Loan, Accountability, Communication.
3 · Academy and in-class — September to March
A bespoke online academy completed in class as a group, anchored by themed discussion. Older groups layer additional workshops alongside the digital content.
4 · Certification — April to June
City & Guilds / ILM assured digital badges.
Across the season: up to four dedicated 1-1 days available for players, alongside themed in-class group discussion that anchors every topic to real life.

delivery and certification
- Format: interactive workshops, e-learning, online assessment after each module, and group and 1-1 coaching.
- Shape: a 12-week intensive is available where a full season is not — three workshops, twelve e-learning modules selected with you from our library, and a final celebration workshop for graduation.
- Between sessions: learners communicate and ask questions through our learning platform, so support does not stop when the workshop ends.
- Certification: City & Guilds and Humanise Solutions digital badges, with skill tags earned across workshops and online learning.
Our framework lets organisations co-design a bespoke programme rather than buy a fixed course. In a sport that changes every season, that flexibility is the point.
Programme delivery is led by qualified coaches and retired athletes. Our coaches are not part of the assured programme.
